Hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride hydrochloride is used in:
• Heart failure
• high blood pressure
Fluid retention caused by a liver disease called "cirrhosis."

Do not take hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride hydrochloride tablets:
• If you are allergic to hydrochlorothiazide, amiloride hydrochloride, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• If you suffer from diabetes (high blood sugar)
• If your doctor has told you that you have high levels of urea, creatinine, potassium or calcium in your blood
• If you are allergic to a type of antibiotic called sulfonamides, such as sulfamethoxazole
• If you are allergic to acetazolamide, a diuretic used to remove fluid from the body and treat high pressure in the eye (glaucoma), heart problems and sometimes seizures
• If you are allergic to any other “thiazide” (diuretic) water tablet.
If you are taking potassium-sparing water tablets (diuretics) such as eplerenone, spironolactone or triamterene.
• If you take a potassium supplement or medication containing potassium, or eat foods rich in potassium
• If you suffer from kidney or liver disease

Warnings and precautions:

• Your doctor has told you that you have high levels of uric acid, cholesterol or triglycerides (a type of cholesterol) in your blood
• You are taking digitalis such as digoxin - which is used for heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms

• you have recently had severe vomiting or diarrhoea
• You have systemic lupus erythematosus
• you are old
• You have gout
• You develop skin cancer or if you develop an unexpected skin lesion during treatment
