Mechanism Of Action Of Bisoprolol

• Blocks beta-adrenergic stimulation; cardioselective for beta-1 at low doses with little or no effect on beta-2 receptors at doses ≤ 20 mg.
• Beta-blocker protects the heart from too much activity. This medicine works by affecting the body’s response to some nerve impulses, especially in the heart.
• As a result, Bisoprolol fumarate slows down the heart rate and makes the heart more efficient at pumping blood around the body.
• Heart failure occurs when the heart muscle is weak and unable to pump enough blood to supply the body’s needs.

Therapeutic Indications Of Cardicor 5 Mg Tablets

• Hypertension: High blood pressure is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.
• Heart Failure: occurs when the heart muscle is weak and unable to pump enough blood to supply the body’s needs.

Method Of Administration Of Cardicor 5 Mg Tablets

• Treatment with Bisoprolol fumarate tablets must be started at a low dose and increased gradually.
• Your doctor will decide how to increase the dose, and this will normally be done in the following way:
• 1.25 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for a week
• 2.5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for a week
• 3.75 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for a week
• 5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for four weeks
• 7.5 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for four weeks
• 10 mg bisoprolol fumarate once daily for maintenance (on-going) therapy
• Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
• If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
• If you forget to take a dose, just take your next dose as normal.
• Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Cardicor 5 Mg Tablets

• Use is recommended only if needed and the benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus.
• Exercise caution when therapy is administered to a nursing woman

Non-Pharmacological Treatments & Advice For Hypertensive Patients

• To measure blood pressure correctly:

1. Don’t eat or drink anything 30 minutes before you take your blood pressure.
2. Empty your bladder before your reading.
3. Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported for at least 5 minutes before your reading.
4. Put both feet flat on the ground and keep your legs uncrossed.
5. Rest your arm with the cuff on a table at chest height.
6. Make sure the blood pressure cuff is snug but not too tight. The cuff should be against your bare skin, not over clothing.
7. Do not talk while your blood pressure is being measured.

Warnings & Special Precautions While Taking Cardicor 5 Mg Tablets

• Drugs Should never be stopped suddenly
• Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use if:

1. You have severe asthma or severe chronic lung disease
2. You have severe blood circulations problem in limbs (such as Raynaud’s syndrome), which may cause your fingers and toes to tingle or turn pale or blue
3. You have untreated pheochromocytoma, which is a rare tumor of the adrenal gland (medulla)
4. You have metabolic acidosis, which is a condition when there is too much acid in the blood.
5. Acute heart failure or heart failure that suddenly becomes worse and/or that may require hospital treatment
6. Slow heart rate
7. Very low blood pressure
8. Certain heart conditions cause a very slow heart rate or irregular heartbeat.
9. Cardiogenic shock is an acute serious heart condition causing low blood pressure and circulatory failure.

• Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:

1. Water medicines for controlling the blood pressure or medicines for heart problems (such as amiodarone, amlodipine, clonidine, digitalis glycosides, diltiazem, disopyramide, felodipine, flecainide, lidocaine, methyldopa, moxonidine, phenytoin, propafenone, quinidine, rilmenidine, verapamil)
2. medicines for depression e.g. imipramine, amitriptyline, moclobemide medicines to treat mental illness e.g. phenothiazines such as levomepromazine
3. medicines used for anesthesia during an operation (see also “Take special care with Bisoprolol Tablets”)
4. medicines used to treat epilepsy e.g. barbiturates such as phenobarbital certain painkillers (for instance acetylsalicylic acid, diclofenac, indomethacin, ibuprofen, naproxen)
5. medicines for asthma, medicines used for blocked nose
6. medicines used for certain eye disorders such as glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or used to widen the pupil of the eye
7. certain medicines to treat clinical shock (e. g. adrenaline, dobutamine, noradrenaline) mefloquine, a medicine for malaria, all these drugs as well as bisoprolol may influence the blood pressure and/or heart function
8. rifampicin for the treatment of infections
9. medicines to treat severe headaches or migraines (ergotamine derivatives)

Storage Conditions Of Cardicor 5 Mg Tablets

• store below 25°c
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Store in the original package to protect from moisture.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the box/blisters/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.

• Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

Normal Range

• Normal: Blood pressure numbers of less than 120/80 mm Hg
• Elevated: is when readings consistently range from 120-129 systolic and less than 80 mm Hg diastolic.
• Hypertension Stage 1: is when blood pressure consistently ranges from 130-139 systolic or 80-89 mm Hg diastolic.
• Hypertension Stage 2: is when blood pressure consistently ranges at 140/90 mm Hg or higher.
• Hypertensive crisis: This stage of high blood pressure requires medical attention. If your blood pressure readings suddenly exceed 180/120 mm Hg, wait five minutes and then test your blood pressure again. If your readings are still unusually high, contact your doctor immediately. You could be experiencing a hypertensive crisis.
