1. What is this preparation and what are the indications for its use1. What is proquinine and what it is used for. Proquinin is an anti-emetic and works to prevent nausea. The active substance is domperidone. Proquinine is used to relieve symptoms of nausea and vomiting in adults and children.2. What you need to know before using this product2. BEFORE YOU TAKE PROQUININA CONTRAINDICATIONS - If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to domperidone or any of the other ingredients in Proquinine. If you have or think you may have a serious intestinal problem such as internal bleeding (symptoms are persistent and black stools), blockage or perforation in the wall of the stomach or intestine (usually this includes severe stomach cramps). A tumor in the pituitary gland known as a prolactinoma. - If you suffer from severe or moderate liver disease. - If your ECG shows a problem known as a "prolonged QT interval". If you have or have ever had a problem where the heart cannot pump blood around the body (this condition is known as heart failure) If you have a problem that causes a low level of potassium or magnesium in the blood, or a high level of potassium in the blood. You are taking certain medicines. Warnings and precautions Before you start taking Proquinine, contact your doctor, pharmacist or nurse - if you suffer from kidney problems (reduced or impaired kidney function). It is advised to consult your doctor in case of prolonged treatment, as you may need to take a lower dose or take this medicine less frequently, and the doctor may ask you to visit it regularly. - If you suffer from liver problems (deficiency or weak liver function). - If you are You are taking a medicine known as levodopa. Domperidone may be associated with an increased risk of arrhythmias and cardiac arrest. The risk is increased in people over 60 years of age or in those taking doses higher than 30 mg per day. This risk is also increased when domperidone is taken together with other medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medicines to treat infections (fungal or bacterial infections) and/or if you have heart problems or HIV/AIDS. Domperidone should be used less often. Effective dose in children and adults. While taking domperidone, contact your doctor if you experience abnormal heart rhythms such as palpitations, trouble breathing, loss of consciousness. Treatment with Proquinine should be discontinued. Children and adolescents Do not give Proquinine tablets to children weighing less than 35 kg. If Proquinine is for children, ask your doctor about a suitable formula for children. Important information about some of the ingredients in Proquinine - If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking Proquinine. - This medicinal product contains sodium. This should be taken into account by patients taking a low sodium dose. Taking other medicines Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. Do not take proquinine if you are taking medicines to treat: - fungal infections such as azole antifungals, especially ketoconazole, fluconazole or voriconazole that are taken orally. - Bacterial infections, especially erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, moxifloxacin, pentamidine (these are antibiotics - heart problems or high blood pressure (eg amiodarone, dronedarone, quinidine, disopyramide, dofetilide, sotalol, diltiazem, verapamil). - psychosis (eg haloperidol, pimozide, sertindole). - depression (eg citalopram, escitalopram). Gastrointestinal disorders (eg cisapride, dolasetron, prucalopride). Malaria (particularly halofantrine). - AIDS/HIV (protease inhibitors). - Cancer (eg tormiphene, vandetanib, vincamine). - Opioid analgesics used to treat pain or as pain relievers. - Ritonavir, used to treat viral infections. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking levodopa (a medicine used to treat symptoms of Parkinson"s disease). Medicines used to treat infections, heart problems or HIV. It is important to ask your doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to use procaine if you are taking other medicines. Others, including medicines obtained without a prescription. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant. Symptoms usually disappear within 3-4 days of taking this medicine. Do not take prokinin for longer than 7 days without consulting a doctor. The usual dose is: Adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and over and weighing 35 kg or more) The usual dose is 10 mg, taken up to three times daily, if possible before Eat meals. Do not take more than 30 mg per day. Children and teenagers from birth to less than 35 kg The tablets are not suitable for children weighing less than 35 kg. People with kidney problems Your doctor may tell you to take a lower dose or take the medicine less frequently. If you get any of the following, stop using the medicine and seek medical help immediately: - Seizures of sudden onset of symptoms or seizures. Involuntary movements of the face, arms or legs, severe trembling, severe muscle stiffness or muscle spasm. Face or fainting. - If you have a very fast or unusual heartbeat. This could be a sign of a life-threatening heart problem. Common (less than 1 in 10 people) Dry mouth Uncommon (less than 1 in 100 people) Anxiety Loss or no pleasure in sex Feeling sleepy or headache Diarrhea Rash or itching - Pain when touching the breast. - Milk coming out of the breast. - A general feeling of weakness. If you get any side effects not mentioned in this leaflet or if you are not sure about anything, consult your doctor or pharmacist. 5. How to store the preparation 5. Storage conditions of Prokinin Keep out of reach of children. Store at temperature below 30°C. Do not use the medicine after its expiry date or when you notice any sign of damage.
