Why is glimepiride used?
Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes as an addition to a proper diet and exercise.
 
Do not take glimepiride:
If you are allergic to glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you have type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent).
if you have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication in which your blood sugar levels are too high and you experience nausea, frequent urination, tiredness and muscle weakness).
If you are in a diabetic coma.
If you suffer from serious liver problems.
If you have kidney problems.
 
Warnings and precautions:
Tell your doctor about all of your health conditions, including, if you have:
You are recovering from an injury, operation, or infection with a fever or other forms of stress.
If you suffer from liver or kidney problems.
If you have a deficiency of an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
 This medicine may cause a drop in your blood sugar level especially if you miss a meal, exercise a lot or drink alcohol. Signs of low blood sugar levels include: nausea, hunger, tremors, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. You can take a sugar cube or some juice.
 
Possible side effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; Itch; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; trouble breathing, swallowing, or speaking; Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency with which these side effects occur is unknown.

allergic reactions;
Low blood sugar levels.
