    Pantoprazole is used to treat excess stomach acid in situations such as non-cancerous stomach ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that works by limiting gastric acid production. Pantoprazole is an over the counter (OTC) medication used in adults to treat heartburn that occurs twice or more per week.


    Uses:

    • Used with antibiotic to treat Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).
    • Treat stomach ulcers.
    • Treat duodenal ulcer.
    • Treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
    • Treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
    • Treat erosive esophagitis.


    Precautions and warnings:

    • Pantoprazole may cause renal issues. 
    • Pantoprazole should not be used for immediate reduction of heartburn symptoms.
    • Pantoprazole may result in new or worsening lupus symptoms. 

    Side effects:

    • Cold symptoms include stuffy nose, sneezing, and sore throat (particularly in young people). 
    • Fever (particularly among children).
    • Stomach discomfort and gas.
    • Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. 
    • headache.
