Rosuvastatin is used to correct levels of fatty substances in the blood called lipids, the most common of which is cholesterol.There are different types of cholesterol in the blood—"bad" cholesterol and "good" cholesterol.Rosuvastatin can reduce "bad" cholesterol and increase "good" cholesterol.It works by helping prevent the body from producing "bad" cholesterol.
Do not take Rosuvastatin:
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to Rosuvastatin or any of its ingredients.If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.If you have liver disease.If you have severe kidney problems.If you experience recurrent or unexplained muscle aches or pains.If you are taking the combination medicine sofosbuvir/velpatasvir/voxilaprevir.If you are taking a medicine called cyclosporine (used, for example, after organ transplantation).
Warnings and Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking rosuvastatin:If you have kidney problems.If you have liver problems.If you experience recurrent or unexplained muscle aches or pains, or have a personal or family history of muscle problems, or a previous history of muscle problems when taking other cholesterol-lowering medicines.If you regularly drink large amounts of alcohol.If your thyroid gland is not working properly.If you are taking other medicines called fibrates to lower your cholesterol.If you are taking medicines to treat HIV infection.If you are taking or have taken a medicine called fusidic acid in the last seven days.If you are over 70 years old.If you have severe respiratory failure.If you are of Asian origin—i.e., Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, or Indian.
Possible side effects of rosuvastatin include:
Headache, stomach pain, constipation, nausea, muscle pain, weakness, dizziness, diabetes, rash, itching, or other skin reactions, and increased protein in the urine. These usually return to normal on their own without the need to stop taking rosuvastatin tablets.
Other medications and rosuvastatin:
Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:Cyclosporin (used, for example, after an organ transplant),Warfarin or clopidogrel (or any other blood-thinning medication),Fibrates (such as gemfibrozil, fenofibrate) or any other cholesterol-lowering medication (such as ezetimibe),Indigestion medications (used to neutralize stomach acids),Erythromycin (an antibiotic), Fusidic acid (an antibiotic),Oral contraceptives (birth control pills),Regorafenib (used to treat cancer),Darolutamide (used to treat cancer),Hormone replacement therapy,Any of the following medications used to treat viral infections.
How to Take Rosuvastatin:
Usual Dosages in AdultsIf you are taking rosuvastatin for high cholesterol:Starting DoseYour treatment with rosuvastatin should start with a dose of 5 mg or 10 mg, even if you have previously taken a higher dose of a different statin. The choice of starting dose depends on:Your cholesterol levels.Your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.Whether you have a factor that may make you more sensitive to potential side effects.Your doctor may decide to give you a lower dose (5 mg) if:You are of Asian descent (Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, and Indian).You are over 70 years old.You have moderate kidney problems.You are at risk of developing muscle pain (myopathy).Increased Dose and Maximum Daily DoseYour doctor may decide to increase your dose. This is to ensure you are taking the right amount of rosuvastatin for you.If you start with a 5 mg dose, your doctor may decide to double this dose to 10 mg, then 20 mg, and then 40 mg if needed.If you start with a 10 mg dose, your doctor may decide to double it to 20 mg and then 40 mg if needed.The maximum daily dose of rosuvastatin is 40 mg.If you are taking rosuvastatin to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or related health problems:The recommended dose is 20 mg daily. However, your doctor may decide to use a lower dose if you have any of the factors listed above.Children and adolescents aged 6-17 yearsThe dose for children and adolescents aged 6-17 years is 5 to 20 mg once a day.The usual starting dose is 5 mg per day, and your doctor may gradually increase your dose to find the right amount of rosuvastatin.The maximum daily dose of rosuvastatin is 10 or 20 mg for children aged 6 to 17 years, depending on the underlying condition being treated. Take your dose once a day.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.Do not use this medicine after the expiry date shown on the package.Store below 25°C.
