Cephalexin is a semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic for oral administration.
Cephalexin is used to treat the following infections: Respiratory infections. Otitis media Infections of the skin and soft tissues. Bone and joint infections.
Urogenital infections, including acute prostatitis and dental infections.

What you need to know before using cephalexin?
Do not use cephalexin:
If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, or to any other cephalosporins or penicillin medicines.

Warnings and precautions:
The dose should be adjusted according to the degree of renal impairment.
Tell your doctor if you have diarrhea, as pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with this medication.
A Coombs test result may be transiently positive during or after treatment with cephalexin.
Urinary glucose should be determined enzymatically (eg with test strips) during treatment with cephalexin because reduction tests can provide falsely elevated values.
Do not take this medicine if you are galactose intolerant.

Other medicines and cephalexin:
 Probenecid reduces the excretion of cephalexin, resulting in an increase in its plasma concentration.
Cephalosporins may have an increased risk of nephrotoxicity in the presence of amphotericin, loop diuretics, aminoglycosides, capreomycin or vancomycin.

How to use cephalexin:
 Cephalexin is used orally.
Adults: 1-4 grams daily in divided doses; Most infections respond to a dose of 500 mg every 8 hours.
For skin and soft tissue infections, streptococcal pharyngitis and mild uncomplicated urinary tract infections, the usual dose is 250 mg every 6 hours or 500 mg every 12 hours.
Severe infections or those caused by less sensitive organisms may need larger doses.
Dosage adjustment is required in case of renal impairment.
Children: The recommended daily dose for children is 25-50 mg/kg (10-20 mg/lb) in divided doses.
In severe infections, the dose may be doubled.

Possible side effects:
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop hives, rash, chest tightness, wheezing and hypotension.

How to store cephalexin:
Do not store above 25°C.
Keep container tightly closed (for bottles).
Keep in the original box (for blisters).
