Why is Clomiphene used?
This medicine contains a medicine called clomiphene citrate. This belongs to a group of medicines called ovulation stimulants. It works by stimulating the release of eggs from the ovaries (ovulation). Clomiphene is used to treat some types of infertility in women who do not ovulate properly.
Do not use Clomiphene.
Before taking this medicine, talk to your doctor about the risks of:
• Pregnancy with more than one baby at the same time (multiple pregnancies).
• Pregnancies where the baby grows outside the uterus (ectopic).
• Any pregnancy can lead to birth defects or miscarriage. This can happen even if you are not pregnant.
• Taking Clomiphene.
You should talk to your doctor about the potential risks before taking Clomiphene.
Do not take this medicine if:
You are allergic (hypersensitive) to clomiphene or any of the other ingredients of Clomiphene.
• Signs of an allergic reaction include: skin rash, problems swallowing or breathing, swelling of the lips, face, throat, or tongue.
• You have or have had liver disease.
• You have unusual menstrual bleeding for an unknown reason.
• You have a type of cancer made worse by hormones.
• You have a cyst on your ovary.
• You are pregnant. You should have a test to make sure you are not pregnant before taking clomiphene.
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you:
• You have experienced early menopause or have been told you are infertile.
• Your periods have stopped due to weight loss.
• You have had seizures or attacks in the past.
• You have fibroids in your uterus.
• You have ovarian cysts.
• Your ovaries are swollen.
• You have hyperlipidemia (high blood fats) or a family history of hyperlipidemia.
Possible Side Effects
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing. Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching of the face or body.
Other Medications and Clomiphene
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
This includes medicines you buy with a prescription, including herbal medicines. This is because clomiphene can affect the way some other medicines work. Also, some medicines can affect the way clomiphene works.
How to Use Clomiphene
Take this medicine by mouth
Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew your tablets.
Do not take more than two tablets per day.
Do not take your tablets for more than five days at a time.
If you feel your medicine is not working, do not change the dose yourself; ask your doctor.
The usual dose is: Adults only.
Your doctor will tell you when you are in your menstrual cycle to start taking the tablets.
For the first course of treatment, take one tablet daily for five days.
If you do not have a period after the first course of treatment, your doctor will increase your dose to two tablets daily for five days.
This second course should be started at least 30 days after the first course.
You will not normally take more than three courses of treatment. If ovulation does not occur after three courses, talk to your doctor.
How to store Clomifene
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Store in the original container below 25°C.
Do not use after the expiry date printed on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste.
