Why is Bisacodyl used?

This medicine is used to treat constipation.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not use Bisacodyl if:

You are intolerant to or unable to digest some sugars (the tablet contains a small amount of lactose and sucrose).

You are severely dehydrated.

You have a bowel condition called ileus (a blockage in the bowel).

You have a serious abdominal condition such as appendicitis.

You have severe abdominal pain accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

You have a blockage in the bowel (intestinal obstruction).

You have inflammation of the bowel (small or large intestine).

If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Possible Side Effects

Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing. Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching of the face or body.

Other medications and Bisacodyl

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:

Water tablets (diuretics) such as bendrofluazide or furosemide

Steroid medications such as prednisolone

Other laxative medications

How to use Bisacodyl

Adults and children over 10 years

Take one or two tablets (5 to 10 mg) daily before bedtime.

If you have not taken Bisacodyl 5 mg gastro-resistant tablets before, start with one tablet and increase to two tablets if necessary.

When your bowel regularity returns to normal, the dose can be stopped.

Children aged 4 to 10 years

Bisacodyl 5 mg gastro-resistant tablets should only be given to children aged 4 to 10 years if recommended by a doctor.

The usual dosage for children is

One tablet (5 mg) daily at bedtime.

Children under 4 years of age

Bisacodyl 5 mg gastro-resistant tablets are not recommended for use in children under 4 years of age.

How to store Bisacodyl

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25°C. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not use if you notice any damage to the outer packaging.

Do not dispose of any medicines via wastewater or household waste.

The dosage form and method of use of Bisacodyl 10 mg suppositories should be determined individually for each patient, depending on the therapeutic indication and severity of the disease.
