Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide 150 /12.5 mg

 

What Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide is used for:

  • It is a combination of Irbesartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, and Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, indicated for hypertension:
  • In patients not adequately controlled with monotherapy.  
  • As initial therapy in patients likely to need multiple drugs to achieve their blood pressure goal.

Do not take Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide if:

  • Hypersensitivity to Irbesartan or hydrochlorothiazide 
  • Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs (like sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim, sulfasalazine)
  • Anuria present (not enough urine production)
  • Renal impairment
  • Liver impairment  

Warnings & Precautions:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Irbesartan/Hydrochlorothiazide
  • To monitor kidney functions 
  • To monitor potassium levels 
  • If you have vision problems like myopia or glaucoma
  • If you have lupus 
  • If you are at risk to be volume depleted (dehydrated)

Possible Side Effects: 

  • Fatigue 
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle pain

Other medicines and Irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide:

  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements.
  • Increased risk of kidney damage and reduction of its effects when taken with Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) and COX-2 inhibitors (like ibuprofen, ketoprfen, celecoxib)
  • Increased risk of lithium toxicity when taken together
  • Not recommended use with potassium supplements to avoid increase of potassium levels in blood.

With only Hydrochlorothiazide:

  • Avoid cholestyramine and colestipol to have maximum absorption
  • Adjust dose of antidiabetics 
  • Monitor while using alcohol, barbiturates and narcotics because of the potential hypotension

How to take Irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide:  

  • Adults above 18 years of age and CrCl >30ml/min: 
  • The usual dose is: 1 tablet daily 
  • Irbesartan//hydrochlorothiazide  tablet can be taken with or without food 
  • It may be administered with other antihypertensive agents 
  • It can be taken any time of the day 
  • Do not break the tablet in half 
  • Correct if known volume depletion prior to starting the medicine

  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
