What are the uses of insulin glargine?
Do not use insulin glargine:
• If you are allergic to insulin glargine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Warnings and precautions:

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
• High blood sugar (high blood sugar)

Possible side effects of insulin glargine:
Insulin glargine can cause serious side effects. These side effects only happen to a small number of people and include:
• lack of blood sugar
• Signs of allergy
• vision problems
• swollen joints
• Diabetic retinopathy (an eye disease linked to diabetes that can lead to vision loss)
Painful neuropathy (pain due to nerve damage)
Other medicines and insulin glargine:
Please tell your doctor, if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. Especially if you are taking medications for: contraception, pain, hormonal replacement, diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, depression, autoimmune disease, infection.
How to use insulin glargine:
• Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
• Use insulin glargine once every day, preferably at the same time every day.
• Insulin glargine is intended for subcutaneous (under the skin) injection. You should not inject yourself directly into a vein (intravenously) or intramuscularly (intramuscularly).
• With each injection, change the injection site within the specific area of skin you are using. This may reduce the risk of developing lumps or skin pitting.
• The best places to inject are: the front of the waist (abdomen), the upper arm or the front of the thighs.
• The insulin will work faster if it is injected into the front of your waist. You should always measure your blood sugar regularly.
• Insulin glargine can be used in adolescents and children aged one year and over. There is no experience with the use of insulin glargine in children under 1 year of age.
How to store insulin glargine:
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the pen and carton label after "EXP". The expiration date refers to the last day of the same month. Always keep the pen cap on when not in use to protect it from light. Insulin glargine should be protected from excessive heat and light.
• Before opening: An insulin glargine pen that is not used should be stored in the refrigerator at 2 to 8°C, away from the refrigerating element. Do not freeze.
• During use or when carried as a spare part: You may carry your insulin glargine pen with you and keep it at a temperature below 30°C or in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) for up to 4 weeks. If refrigerated, keep away from cooling element. Do not freeze.
• Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste.
