What is cefaclor and what is it used for:
Cefaclor is an antibiotic belonging to the second generation group of cephalosporins.
It is used to treat the following infections caused by susceptible microorganisms: Respiratory infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis, exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, and as part of the treatment of sinusitis, otitis media, and skin and suppuration.
Tissue infections and urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis and cystitis.

What you need to know before using cefaclor:
Do not use cefaclor:
If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, or to any other cephalosporin or penicillin medicines.

Warnings and precautions:
Consider membranous colitis in case of diarrhea.
Cefaclor should be used with caution in the presence of marked impairment of renal function.
Prolonged use of cefaclor may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms. If an infection occurs during treatment, appropriate measures should be taken.
Positive direct Coombs" analyzes have been reported during treatment with cephalosporin antibiotics.
A false-positive reaction for glucose in the urine may occur with copper sulfate test tablets.

Other medicines and cefaclor:
Regular monitoring of prothrombin time should be observed when taking warfarin and cefaclor.

How to use cefaclor:
Cefaclor is used orally.
Adults: The usual adult dose is 250 mg every eight hours. In severe infections or those caused by less sensitive organisms, doses may be doubled.
If undergoing hemodialysis: A loading dose of 250 mg-1 g is recommended before dialysis and a therapeutic dose of 250-500 mg every six to eight hours during the intervals between hemodialysis.
Children: The usual daily dose for children is 20 mg/kg/day, in divided doses every eight hours.

Possible side effects:
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop hives, rash, chest tightness, wheezing and hypotension.

How to store cefaclor:
Store below 25°C. Keep container tightly closed to protect from light.
There are no special requirements for disposal.
Any unused medicinal product or waste should be disposed of according to local requirements.
