Ketoconazole 2% Shampoo

What is ketoconazole and what is it used for?

It is an azole antifungal used to treat endogenous Cushing's syndrome (when the body produces excess cortisol) in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Do not take ketoconazole:

If you are allergic to ketoconazole and/or any imidazole antifungal medication
If you have liver problems
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
If you have a history of irregular heartbeat

Warnings and Precautions:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist
If you have a history of liver disease
If you are taking glucocorticoids
If you have irregular heartbeat
If you have another autoimmune disease

Possible side effects:

Skin reactions (rash, itching)
Fatigue
Nausea

Other medications and ketoconazole:

Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medications you take, including prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications:
Certain cholesterol-lowering medications: simvastatin, atorvastatin, lovastatin
Certain heart medications: eplerenone, dronedarone, disopyramide, felodipine, nisoldipine, ranolazine
Certain medications used for severe mental health disorders and major depression: pimozide, sertindole, lurasidone, and quetiapine
Certain medications used for allergies: mizolastine
Dabigatran - a medication used to prevent blood clots
Certain medications for sleep and anxiety: triazolam, alprazolam, and midazolam (taken by mouth)
Certain medications used for migraine attacks: dihydroergotamine, ergometrine (ergonovine), ergotamine and methylergometrine (methylergonovine)
Certain medications used for cancer: irinotecan, everolimus, and sirolimus: used to prevent your body from rejecting a kidney transplant
Vardenafil in men older than 18 75 years - A medication for treating erectile dysfunction in adult men
Certain HIV medications: saquinavir/ritonavir, saquinavir
Colchicine: A medication for treating gout

How to take ketoconazole:

Adults and children over 12 years of age:
The recommended starting dose is 600 mg per day taken orally (3 tablets per day in 3 divided doses).
The ketoconazole tablet should be taken after a full meal.
Separate it from antacids or gastric secretion inhibitors.
Can be taken at any time of day.
Do not break the tablet in half.

How to store ketoconazole:

Keep this medication out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medication after the expiry date printed on the carton and on the blister after EXP.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
This medication does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not dispose of medications via wastewater or household waste.
Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medications you no longer use.
