Loratadine belongs to a class of medicines called antihistamines, which are used to treat various allergic conditions.
Loratadine 10 mg Tablets
What is Loratadine and what is it used for?
Loratadine tablets are used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis. Symptoms of these conditions can include sneezing, a runny nose, and an itchy nose, as well as burning, itchy, and watery eyes.
Loratadine tablets are also used to relieve the symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria (a skin rash made up of hives and blood).
Do not take Loratadine
If you are allergic to Loratadine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Warnings and Precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Loratadine if you:
• You have serious liver problems
• You are due to have any skin allergy tests. Do not take Loratadine tablets for two days before these tests. This is because it may affect test results.
Possible side effects of Loratadine
You should stop taking Loratadine tablets immediately and consult your doctor if you experience an allergic reaction to this medicine. This may include:
• Itchy skin rash or hives (including inside the mouth)
• Swelling of the face/tongue/lips/hands/feet
• Difficulty breathing.
The most common side effects reported in adults and children over 12 years are:
• Drowsiness
• Headache
• Increased appetite
• Difficulty sleeping.
The most common side effects reported in children aged 2 to 12 years are:
• Nervousness
• Tiredness
Other Medications and Loratadine
When taking the following medications simultaneously, they may increase the blood level of loratadine and increase its side effects:
• Ketoconazole (used to treat fungal infections)
• Erythromycin (an antibiotic)
• Cimetidine (used to treat heartburn)
How to Take Loratadine
Adults (including the elderly): 10 mg once daily (one tablet once daily)
Children over 12 years of age: 10 mg once daily (one tablet once daily)
Children aged 2 to 12 years:
• Body weight over 30 kg: 10 mg once daily (one tablet once daily)
• Body weight 30 kg or less: Not recommended
Children under 2 years of age: Not recommended
Swallow the tablet whole with water. It can be taken with or without food.
How to Store Loratadine
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date printed on the carton and foil after "EXP." The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
• Store in the original packaging.
• Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
