It is an azole antifungal and is used to treat autoimmune Cushing"s syndrome (when the body produces too much cortisol) in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

Do not take ketoconazole:
If you are allergic to ketoconazole and/or any imidazole antifungal medication
If you have liver problems
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
If you have a history of irregular heartbeat

Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist
If you have a history of liver disease
If you are taking glucocorticoids
If you suffer from an irregular heartbeat
If you have another autoimmune disease

Possible side effects:
Skin reactions (rash, itching)

Adults and children over 12 years old:
The recommended initial dose is 600 mg per day taken orally (3 tablets per day in 3 divided times).
