Prednisolone acetate reduces irritation, burning, redness, and swelling of eye inflammation caused by chemicals, heat, radiation, allergies, or foreign bodies in the eyes.
What is prednisolone acetate and what it is used for:
Do not use prednisolone acetate:
If you are allergic to prednisolone acetate, benzalkonium chloride, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
If you have a viral, fungal or bacterial eye infection
If you suffer from tuberculosis in the eye
If you have injuries or ulcers in the cornea
If you have ever had herpes simplex
Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor before using prednisolone acetate if you have, or have had in the past, from:
Eye sores or have had an eye disease or treatment that has caused tissue thinning
Glaucoma or being treated for raised pressure inside the eye
Cataract surgery
Bacterial, viral, or fungal eye infection
Possible side effects of prednisolone acetate:
You should see your doctor if any of the following effects prove to be bothersome or if they are long-lasting:
allergic reaction
Headache
Increased pressure inside the eye
The center of the eye becomes cloudy (cataracts)
Feeling that there is something in your eyes
Eye infections (bacterial, fungal, or viral)
Mild stinging or irritation
red eye
Blurred or double vision
dilated pupils
Change in the sense of taste
rash or itching
Other medicines and prednisolone acetate:
Some medicines may increase the effect of prednisolone acetate and your doctor may want to monitor you carefully if you are taking these medicines (including some HIV medicines: ritonavir, cobicistat).
How to use Prednisolone Acetate:
The recommended dose is 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye 2 to 4 times a day. During the first two days of treatment, you may be asked to put in the drops every hour.
You should not use the bottle if the tamper-proof seal on the neck of the bottle is broken before using it for the first time.
Apply your eye drops in the following way:
wash your hands. Shake well before use. Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling.
Gently pull the lower eyelid down until there is a small pocket.
Turn the bottle upside down and squeeze to release one or two drops into each eye that needs treatment.
Leave the lower eyelid and close your eye. Press your finger to the corner of your eye (the side where your eye meets your nose) for 1 minute.
How to store prednisolone acetate:
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Throw away the bottle 28 days after opening, even if solution remains.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the bottle label. The expiration date refers to the last day of that month for an unopened bottle.
Do not store above 25°C (room temperature).
Do not use this medicine if you notice that the safety seal is broken.
