What is Ethinyl Estradiol/Cyproterone Acetate used for?
Ethinyl Estradiol/Cyproterone Acetate is used to treat acne, excessive oily skin, and excessive hair growth in women (hirsutism). It also has contraceptive effects, meaning it prevents pregnancy.
Do not take Ethinyl Estradiol/Cyproterone Acetate:
- If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any other ingredient in this medicine.
- If you have or have ever had breast, ovarian, or uterine cancer.
- If you have blood clots, blood clotting problems, or inflammation of the veins (thrombophlebitis).
- If you have or have had a heart attack, stroke, or mini-stroke.
- If you have angina (chest pain) or very high blood fats.
- If you have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
- If you have diabetes with blood vessel problems.
- If you have migraines with vision problems.
- If you have vision problems due to eye blood vessel disease.
- If you have liver problems or jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes).
- If you have a liver tumor.
- If you have hepatitis C and are taking certain medications to treat it.
- If you are taking other hormonal contraceptives.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Warnings and Precautions:
Talk to your doctor about all your medical conditions before taking this medicine, including:
· If you are a smoker.
· If you are overweight.
· If you have diabetes.
- If you have high blood pressure (hypertension).
- If you have heart problems.
- If you have high cholesterol (fat) levels in your blood.
- If you have or have had any cancer.
- If you have liver or kidney problems.
- If you have had liver problems in the past, including yellowing of the skin and eyes.
- If you have epileptic seizures.
- If you have polycystic ovary syndrome, where cysts develop in the ovaries.
- If you have lupus (systemic lupus erythematosus).
- If you have an inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
- If you have brown spots on your face or body (melasma).
- If you have sickle cell disease.
- If you have depression.
- If you have eye problems.
- If you are about to have surgery.
This medication increases your risk of blood clots.
This medication increases your risk of heart disease, especially if you are over 35 and a smoker.
Possible side effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical help if you develop a rash; hives; itching; red, swollen, blistering, or peeling skin; wheezing; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop taking this medication and call your doctor if you experience sudden, unusual coughing, shortness of breath, partial or complete loss of vision, severe headache, slurred speech, numbness, severe pain, and swelling of the legs.
Serious side effects:
· Blood clots
· Severe depression
· Breast cancer
· Cancer of the cervix (uterus).

Tell your doctor about all the medications you take.
Ethinylestradiol/Cyproterone Acetate interacts with many medications, including:
- Other hormonal contraceptives:
- Medications used for HIV and hepatitis C: ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir and dasabuvir.
- Medications used to treat epilepsy, such as carbamazepine, phenytoin
- Medications used to lower blood pressure
- Medications used to treat cancer
- Antifungals
- Blood thinners
- Asthma medications
- St. John's wort (herbal product)
How to take Ethinylestradiol/Cyproterone Acetate:
- Take as directed by your doctor.
Start ethinyl estradiol/cyproterone acetate on the first day of your cycle (day 1).
Take one tablet daily for 21 days.
Then you have 7 pill-free days. You should have a withdrawal bleed, similar to a period.
Take it at the same time every day.
Swallow the tablet whole.
How to store ethinyl estradiol/cyproterone acetate:
Store at room temperature 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
Keep this medication out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medication after the expiration date printed on the package. The expiration date refers to the last day of that month.
