Silver Sulfadiazine 1% (10 mg/g) Cream
What is Sulfadiazine used for?
This medicine is a topical antibacterial cream containing an active ingredient that belongs to a group of antibiotic medicines called sulfonamides.It is used to prevent infection in severe burns. Other types of wounds, such as pressure ulcers and leg ulcers, may also benefit from applying this cream.
Do not use Sulfadiazine:
Do not use if: you are allergic to silver sulfadiazine, any sulfonamide medicine, or any of the ingredients.Do not give silver sulfadiazine to premature infants or newborns in the first months of life.Sulfonamides may cause a life-threatening condition known as "brain jaundice" in babies during the first months of life by interfering with normal metabolism.Do not use if the tube or jar has been opened or shows signs of tampering before your first application.
Warnings and Precautions:
Tell your doctor if:You are allergic to any other medications or any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.You are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.Should not be used during the last month of pregnancy. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of use during pregnancy.You are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.Sulfonamides are excreted in small amounts in breast milk and should be used with caution in breastfeeding mothers. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of use during breastfeeding.Do not apply to the breast before breastfeeding.You know you have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.You have or have ever had any other medical conditions, including:Low white blood cell countLiver and/or kidney problems.
Possible Side Effects:
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience tightness in the throat, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing.Stop using the product if you experience hives or itching of the face or body.
Other medicines and Sulfadiazine:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using any other creams, ointments, or lotions, or are taking any other medicines.This includes anything you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket, or health food shop.
How to use Sulfadiazine:
It should be applied with a sterile spatula or by hand, covered with a sterile glove, in a layer approximately 3-5 mm thick.At least once every 24 hours is usually sufficient, but the number of times you apply the cream daily depends on your individual needs.If necessary, reapply to any area removed during activity.
How to store Sulfadiazine:
Store in a cool, dry place away from light, where the temperature remains below 25°C.Refrigeration is not normally needed, but at temperatures above 30°C, some form of refrigeration is desirable.Do not store it or any other medicine in the bathroom or near the sink. Do not leave it in the car or on windowsills. Keep out of reach of small children.
