Mechanism Of Action Of Levocetirizine

H1 histamine receptor antagonist; competes for H1-receptor sites in target cells in the respiratory tract, blood vessels, and gastrointestinal tract.

Therapeutic Indications Of Levozyrt Tablets

  • It is used for the relief of signs and symptoms related to seasonal allergic rhinitis (allergic reactions triggered by seasonal allergens such as tree pollen, grass pollen, and weed pollen causing stuffy and runny nose)
  • Perennial allergic rhinitis (allergic reactions triggered by perennial allergens such as dust mites, mold, pet dander, and some insects causing stuffy and runny nose).
  • It is also used for the treatment of uncomplicated skin manifestations of chronic idiopathic urticaria (chronic hives that result in itchy, red bumps or wheals).

Method Of Administration Of Levozyrt Tablets

  • Adults and children 12 years of age and older:
  1. 5 mg (1 tablet) orally once daily in the evening.
  2. The dose may need to be adjusted in patients with poor kidney function.
  • Children 6 to 11 years of age:
  1. 5 mg (1/2 tablet) orally once daily in the evening.
  2. Do not exceed 2.5 mg daily.
  • Do not give this medication to children below 6 years of age.
  • Take tablet or oral solution with or without food.
  • Take a tablet with a full glass of water.
  • Take at the same time every day.
  • Doses may be changed in special conditions so always follow your doctor's or pharmacist's instructions.
  • If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital straight away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it unless it is nearly time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the forgotten dose.

Undesirable Side Effects Of Levozyrt Tablets

  • Nasopharyngitis (cold).
  • Dry mouth.
  • Pharyngitis (inflammation of the pharynx).
  • Somnolence (feeling sleepy).
  • Common side effects in children 6 to 12 years of age
  • Pyrexia (fever).

  • Epistaxis (nose bleeding).

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding Precautions While Taking Levozyrt Tablets

  • Try to breathe moist air. Use a humidifier or take a steamy shower.

  • Eat a well-balanced diet. If you cannot, ensure you are getting enough nutrients by taking a daily multivitamin.
  • Avoid dairy products, as they can thicken phlegm.

  1. If you are allergic to Levocetirizine dihydrochloride, or any of the ingredients in this medicine.
  2. If you have an end-stage renal impairment (very poor kidney function) or if you are undergoing hemodialysis.
  3. If you are 6 to 11 years of age with renal impairment (poor renal function).
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you develop allergic reactions such as shortness of breath, skin rash, swelling of the face or neck, decreased blood pressure and dizziness.
  • Avoid driving or using machines or any other hazardous occupations that necessitate complete mental alertness.
