Piperazine (as piperazine citrate)

Why use Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline Effervescent Granules?

Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline Effervescent Granules are used for the prevention and treatment of chronic or recurrent lower urinary tract infections and asymptomatic bacteriuria.

Do not use Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline Effervescent Granules:
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients.

Epilepsy or severe renal impairment. It should be given with caution to patients with neurological disorders. It should also be avoided or given with extreme caution to patients with hepatic impairment.

During pregnancy and lactation.

Severe dehydration, metabolic acidosis, or gout.

Precautions and warnings:
Use with caution in patients with severe malnutrition and anemia.

Possible side effects:
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, rash, and urticaria may occur occasionally. • Severe neurotoxicity and EEG abnormalities have been reported, with symptoms including drowsiness, dizziness, sleepiness, muscle incoordination and weakness, twitching, paresthesia, myoclonic jerks, choroidal movements, tremors, convulsions, and loss of reflexes.

• Transient visual disturbances such as blurred vision, paralytic strabismus, and, rarely, cataracts.

• Convulsive seizures may occur but are only present in the presence of neurological abnormalities or renal disease.

Allergic reactions that sometimes occur include:
• Skin reactions, arthralgia, fever, edema, and tachycardia. Urticaria, photodermatitis, erythema multiforme, purpura, eczematous skin reactions, lacrimation, rhinorrhea, and rarely bronchospasm

Other medications and Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline effervescent granules:

• Using hexamine with sulfonamides may increase the risk of urinary crystals.

• Avoid using medications that alkalize the urine, including some antacids, potassium citrate, and diuretics such as acetazolamide or thiazides.

How to take Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline effervescent granules:
• Dissolve 1 tablespoon in half a glass of water after meals, three times daily.

• Do not exceed the recommended dose of the effervescent granules.

How to store Piperazine/Hexamine/Khelline effervescent granules:
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place and close tightly after use.
