Do not take atenolol tablets:
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to atenolol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine:
If you have any of the following heart problems:
Uncontrollable heart failure.
Second or third degree heart block.
Very slow or irregular heartbeat, very low blood pressure or very poor circulation.
If you have a tumor called a pheochromocytoma that has not been treated.
If you have higher-than-normal acid levels in your blood.

Warnings and precautions:
Talk to your doctor before taking atenolol tablets if:
If you have asthma, wheezing, or other similar breathing problems, or have allergic reactions, such as insect stings.
You have a type of chest pain (for angina pectoris) called Prinzmetal"s angina.
You have poor blood circulation or heart failure.
You have first degree heart block.
You have diabetes.

Possible side effects:
Stop taking atenolol tablets if you notice any of the following serious side effects:
Allergic reactions.
abnormal heartbeat, feeling dizzy, tired or fainting;
Shortness of breath or swollen ankles.

clonidine;
Verapamil, diltiazem and nifedipine.
