Product Description

Sodium Phosphate Dibasic/Sodium Monophosphate Enema

What is Sodium Phosphate Dibasic/Sodium Monophosphate Enema and what is it used for?

It is useful as a laxative to relieve occasional constipation and as part of a bowel cleansing regimen to prepare the colon for surgery, x-rays, or endoscopic examinations.
When used as directed, it provides a safe and thorough cleansing action and induces complete emptying of the left colon, usually within 1 to 5 minutes, without pain or cramping.

Do not take sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium monophosphate rectal suppositories if:

Congestive heart failure
Severely impaired kidney function
Known or suspected gastrointestinal obstruction
Megacolon (congenital or acquired)
Paralytic ileus
Perforation
Active inflammatory bowel disease
Imperforate anus
Dehydration
Generally in all cases where absorption capacity is increased or elimination capacity is decreased
Children under 2 years of age
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients

Warnings and Precautions:

Use with caution if:

Impaired kidney function

Taking medications known to affect renal perfusion, renal function, or hydration status

Have electrolyte disturbances or are taking diuretics or other medications that may affect electrolyte levels

You are taking medications known to prolong the QT interval

Ascites

Have had a colostomy

Possible side effects:

Dehydration

Diarrhea
Nausea/vomiting

Other medications and sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium monophosphate rectal suppositories:

Tell your doctor Tell your pharmacist about all medications you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Other sodium phosphate preparations, including sodium phosphate solution or tablets, should not be given concomitantly.
Electrolyte disturbances and hypovolemia caused by decontamination may be exacerbated by inadequate oral fluid intake, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, or the use of diuretics (furosemide), ACE inhibitors (lisinpuril, ramipril), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), candesartan, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (ibuprofen, diclofenac), lithium, or other medications that may affect electrolyte levels. This may lead to metabolic acidosis, tetanus, kidney failure, QT prolongation, and, in more severe cases, organ failure, arrhythmia/cardiac arrest, and death.
Lithium: Avoid combination as it may reduce its effectiveness.

How to take sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic enema:

Adults and children over 2 years of age: Use one enema daily.

Directions for Use:

Remove the orange protective shield from the enema before inserting it.

Using steady pressure, gently insert the enema tip into the rectum with a slight side-to-side motion, pointing the tip toward the navel. Insertion may be easier if the person receiving the enema is holding, as if having a bowel movement. This helps relax the muscles around the anus.

Discontinue use if the tip is difficult to insert. Pushing the tip into the rectum can cause injury (especially if you have hemorrhoids). If the enema tip causes rectal bleeding or pain, seek immediate medical attention.

Squeeze the bottle until almost all of the fluid is gone. It is not necessary to empty the bottle completely, as it contains more fluid than needed.

Remove from the rectum and hold until the urge to empty becomes strong (usually 1 to 5 minutes).

How to use this enema:

Left-side position: Lie on your left side with your knees bent and your arms comfortably resting.
Knee-chest position: Kneel, then lower your head and chest forward until the left side of your face rests on the surface with your left arm comfortably bent.
If you don't feel any urge to do so after 5 minutes of use, try to empty your bowels. Call a doctor immediately if no fluid comes out of your rectum after 30 minutes, as dehydration may occur.
The enema should be used at room temperature.

How to store sodium phosphate dibasic/sodium phosphate monobasic enema:

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not store above 30°C.
Do not refrigerate or freeze.
